Full steam ahead!

January 25, 2011 by gnfoster

Lots happening since the last post. Mostly with Transform Us Ministries. Check out the website to catch up on the happenings!

In the world of web design, I have created a new website for Camp Shenandoah Springs. The had a website previously, so I took the information there and re-created a more user friendly site. It’s actually still in progress. I need to get the domain name transferred to me so I can have control over the DNS and such.

I have also developed a portfolio from Elaine’s photo shoot she had when visiting her sister in California. THANKS MARIO!! for some once in a lifetime photos of my beautiful bride!

In between somewhere, Camp Bethel got it’s standard theme changed over to a fall theme, then at the appropriate time, a Christmas theme came about. Now it’s back to the standard.

C&H website has had some FTP upload work done. It’s not so much a design, but lots of back-end work to get it setup, functional and secure.

Oh, yeah…. I almost forgot… 100 Dollar Bill Cards crashed on me also, so I had to COMPLETELY rebuild it. Thanks again to BACKUPS it was only a few hour process!

Next in development is a site for an up-and-coming young photographer. It’s a preliminary design, but I have not heard back from him. If he doesn’t use the design, I will definitely find a use for it. It turned out rather well I believe.

Recently I have updated the Services 4 U website. Nothing major, but some slight re-design.

Currently I’m playing with a design for a possible free classifieds page. Something new I think may be useful. I came up with the idea while trying to figure out a way to “recycle” Gabe’s school uniforms. Such nice clothing shouldn’t go to waste. Each year it’s tough to find the clothing, then you end up with all this nice apparel after they’ve out-grown it. So, we’ll see how this goes over. The design is pretty straight-forward and works well. Maybe it will expand beyond just for sale/trade apparel.

Meanwhile, full steam ahead with God’s work in the ministry!

Continuing on…

Created a new page for info on some work I’m doing to Elaine’s Jeep. Some info I found online wasn’t quite thorough enough or wasn’t quite what I needed, so I thought I might try my own.

campbethel.com continues to grow. The PayPal thing is going well, so we’re putting more and more on for online purchase. Had a small issue with updating it the other night and had the site down for a few minutes. Whew!! Thank Jesus for giving me the brains to BACKUP! Actually I realized I should take one more step and “export” before a major update also, just in case I had to re-load the entire site, I would have been covered better. Completely as a matter of fact. No worries, it worked out fine. There was an issue with a plugin on the site that caused it to crash…

I’m working on three more videos for KASA. The 2010 Fred Award nominees are coming together as I type. Wasn’t sure I’d do these this year, but I’m actually excited that I’m able to do them on my own outside of C&H. Clients have taken all their own footage and I’m editing/producing it. It’s actually tougher to do the editing this way since I’m not as familiar with what was taken. Coming along well though. They will be posted here after the Fred Awards at the annual KASA meeting in July. Can’t post them before then.

Everybody says it, but few do it…

BACKUP!!!

I’ve been saying it for years, but have recently started. I should have created a RAID the last upgrade of my PC, I definitely will as soon as I can. My motherboard allows RAID, so why not. Problem is, you have to RAID when installing the OS, so when it’s time to go to Windows 7, I’ll do it. That will take care of my OS/program drive.

The next best thing for now is syncing all my info to an external eSATA drive. I got a great price at Buy.com on a 2GB Fantom drive. Using Allway Sync, I’m syncing all data, FTP server that includes all my websites and some program file settings. This includes photos, music, videos, etc. Allway sync can be set to automatically sync many different ways. It doesn’t really slow the system much since I’m running maximum memory, but using Windows “Scheduled Tasks” I’ve set it to sync at night while I’m sleeping.
